Dana Wylie is a bright light from the great west...her singing is brimming with soul and songs and their great arrangements are unique and strong... Her ideas are elegant and classic—but also unbound by genre...I can’t wait to hear her again ”

SOHO Weekly House Band Residency

SOHO Yeg, 11454 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, AB.

The SOHO Wednesday night pro-jam has morphed into a residency for those of us who made up the house band for the jam – Harry Gregg on bass, Jamie Cooper on drums, Rooster Davis on the Yamaha mini-organ (aka The Little Bastard), myself on keys and vocals, and either Kyle Mosiuk or Chad Murphy on guitar and vocals, depending on the week. This residency is a new thing, for us and for SOHO, and we're rearing to build up a regular audience for it. We play what we love and what fires us up (most of it is in the blues/soul/rock/roots pocket), and we LOVE playing with each other. The music is all soulful and all danceable, and the vibe is all camaraderie and friendliness. SOHO is a lovely bar full of lovely people, and every Wednesday we deepen our sense of it as our clubhouse. We'd love for you to be part of that. No cover.

I'm taking my one-woman show Makings of a Voice on the road! Makings of a Voice is a theatrical song cycle about discovering our individual identity within generational narratives. A personal journey situated somewhere between the past and the present, between motherhood and daughterhood, between music and monologue, this intimate piece follows a messy trajectory into the heart of one woman’s story and provides a compelling argument for why our stories need to be told.

A workshop I'm presenting in conjunction with Makings of a Voice. Here's what it's all about: As a songwriter, Dana Wylie has long known that specificity of story and experience is one of the keys to accessing a universality that connects us all. Storytelling is a deeply human impulse, and to engage searchingly with one’s own story can be a powerful process of sense-making and healing, as well as connection to others.

In this workshop, Dana will lead a discussion on the desire for one’s story and its relation to appearance and identity, share her particular process for writing her story in Makings of a Voice, and guide participants through a few simple exercises to get them started down the road of engaging with their own stories – an inevitably rich and rewarding journey for writers, non-writers, and would-be writers alike.

In the spirit of Better Late Than Never, I am finally officially releasing How Much Muscle, the full 7-piece band, live off the floor recording I made back in summer 2020. And I'm thrilled to be having a celebration concert at SOHO, which has become a bit of a clubhouse for me, as a member of the Wednesday night Pro-jam's house band. Joining me for this show are Keith Rempel on bass, Daniel Stadnicki on drums, David Aide on keys, Audrey Ochoa on trombone, Dave Babcock on sax, and Bob Tildesley on trumpet. Ticket info is forthcoming very soon – stay tuned. Meanwhile, you can just get in touch with me if you're really keen to secure your ticket.
